The Front Porch
From The Cultural Significance of the American Front Porch
The American front porch further represented the ideal of community in America. For the front porch existed as a zone between the public and private, an area that could be shared between the sanctity of the home and the community outside. It was an area where interaction with the community could take place.
Some good thought for what we are doing in our churches and our need to create some front porch …

Upcoming Class with Joe Myers
I am getting ready for a class at Biblical Seminary next with. It will be taught by Joseph Myers author of “Search To Belong: Rethinking Intimacy, Community and Small Groups.” (My dad is actually joining me for this class, he’s a pastor at North Suburban Ev. Free Church in Deerfield, IL - he’s auditing it!) This was a great book for me and has really influenced a lot in the spaces we are seeking to create at …

Missional Journey
The more we talk about being “missional” in our community, the more I realize that this is calling for a completely different view of the world and view of our existence in the world. For me, its been a call for me to forsake my self and realize my and our community’s call to “be for the world what Jesus was for the world” (N.T. Wright)
being missional is not an individual exercise. Its inherently communal. I think …

Dang
I hate it when I read things that convict me…
Donald Miller writes in his book Blue Like Jazz….
Living in community made me realize one of my faults: I was addicted to myself. All I thought about was myself. The only thing I really cared about was myself. I had very little concept of love, altruism or sacrifice. I discovered that my mind is like a radio that picks up only one station, the one that plays me: K-DON, all … -
Really Smart Guy Blogging
I’ve often encouraged my brother to start a blog. He finally did.
I highly recommend taking a gander over to his new space. I think you will quickly find he’s no dummy. For all of us in the emerging church dialogue, i believe him to be an invaluable conversation partner. he has been that for me.
GO. READ. NOW.

This is my summary of Myers‘ four spaces of belonging…

To Hell With Intentions
I have been thinking a lot about the last entry I put up about the guys who were arrested because they were protesting a gay parade in Philadelphia by reading scripture out loud (of course, speaking out against homosexuality). The article of course focused on the fact that the guys were arrested for their actions (I just found out from my brother that they were acquitted by the way).
My problem with this whole situation is not that their …
AARGHH!
Its is this kind of stuff that makes we wonder whether some Christians ever read the gospels and see how Jesus interacted with people.
The Academy and the Church
Below is an excerpt from a paper by my older brother Gerald. After the excerpt is a link to the rest of the paper (a .pdf file). I find my brother a great dialogue partner in most of my theological and ecclesiological thoughts. Right now he is working on a masters from TEDS after being in the ministry for a few years…if you have a passion for theology that works for the church i think you will find …
Confessions of an Aimless Blogger
I like writing, it?s somewhat therapeutic for me. The funny thing is this. I don?t really sit down to write anything at all. Ever. Except for this blog. Whatever this blog is really. I mean, in my mind I can?t consider it writing at all. If I were to spend a little more than 5-10 minutes on an entry, then maybe I could consider it writing. That?s what I started off …
