Simply Christian book Summary – Chapter 1

    1

Again, please note, almost 100% of this is straight from NT Wright. I just copied some of the major thoughts, quotes, etc that comprised this chapter. Hope it helps and makes you want to read the whole thing. We are having a great time discussing the book. Here is the introduction. Simply Christian – Chapter 1 Putting the World to Rights: The Cry for Justice Chapter Summary: “We glimpse for a moment, a world at one, a world put to rights, a world where things work out, where societies function fairly and efficiently, where we not only know what we out to do but we actually do it. And then we wake up and come back to reality….” What are we hearing when we dream...Read More →

This week at church we gave away money to the congregation.  Read about it here. In the same vein, my brother has a fantastic post up about the “bane of blessing.”  Read it.

I’m Giving Up Fast Food for Lent

    8

I feel like I have to make it public or the chances of me doing it are less. I am doing this because i am too lazy to make myself a lunch in the morning so this will give me some discipline as well as save a ton of money and make me a healthier person. We’ll see how it goes…

    Simply Christian book Summary

    4

I am working through a book study of Simply Christian by NT Wright at my church.  Below you will find my one page summary of the book for this group.  I basically tried to summarize each section and I took most of it out of his introduction where he kindly gives us somewhat of an outline.  Introduction / Summary to “Simply Christian” by NT Wright Aim of the Book: To explain what Christianity is all about, both to commend it to those outside the faith and to explain it to those inside… Part One: The Echo’s of a Voice Four Areas where we see / hear the “Echo of a Voice” - The Longing for Justice - The Quest for Spirituality - The Hunger for...Read More →

    Adoption Update

    1

From my wife’s adoption blog: “we got out of Family Court on Friday and will be in PGN by Thursday or Friday! I am so excited!!!! The timeline in my head is right on, so far. We are still hoping to go pick him up sometime in April. Please be praying we get a good reviewer in PGN and that we don’t get any kickouts! PGN, for those of you confused now, is the final stage in this process. It is where they look at ALL the paperwork that has been done. This is the point where all the paperwork that we did, and had to re-do, matters. We could get kickout for something as simple as the reviewer not being able to see one...Read More →

    My blogging Status: Suspended

    4

Right now, my personal blog life is kind of in a holding pattern. I often go through these “why do I blog” phases in life and I am in the midst of one of those. Here’s why: I am finding myself working almost 12 hours a day somedays between my church life and my webdesign life. I am trying to put up some boundries with both so that I am more productive and more valuable to each. But, when you work each night  about twice a week from 10pm-2am (mostly on design stuff) and then get up and work from 9am – 5pm it makes for a long day. Thankfully I am able to spend good time iwth my family in the mornings (tues and...Read More →

    Super Bowl Prediction

    3

Okay, it is 5:00 and about 1 and half hours before the game starts. I am making my prediction here: 27-24 Bears Details: - Devin Hester returns one kick for TD - Grossman struggles the first quarter and then settles down and goes off and ends up with 2 TD passes. One in the second quarter and one in the third. - The running game owns the second half and controls the game and clock setting up two fourth quarter field goals. - Manning has a great game but the Bears defense comes in and forces three fumbles as turnovers. Okay, we’ll see how far off I am after the game. Even if I am not right, and I am not going to be right,...Read More →

    Barth on Discipleship

    0

For your reading pleasure… “Yet there were others and it is here that the word acquires its pregnant meaning-who are called by Jesus and follow Him in the sense that they accompany Him wholeheartedly and constantly, sharing His life and destiny at the expense of all other engagements and commitments, attaching themselves to Him, placing themselves in His service, and thus showing that they are qualified to be His disciples…” Karl Barth Church Dogmatics, vol 4.2
