I just launched the new website for Joe Myers, author of the book, The Search to Belong and the upcoming book Organic Community. If you have ever visited Joe’s site in the past, you know that he’s been due for an upgrade. Joe will be doing some blogging and posting links to articles that he has found helpful in his research on community, organic order and belonging. Joe’s first book (Search to Belong) has had a lot of influence on our community life at The Well and I would recommend it to anyone. I’ve read the manuscript for Organic Community and find it just as good, if not better. Its funny, I have found that many pastors struggle with the content but most parishioners are...Read More →

What’s Up.
I haven’t posted in a while because deeply intrenched in some good stuff at church and some fun web design work. I am in the midst of finishing up some sites for a few great organizations: Joe Myers (Author of The Search to Belong and Organic Community). Here is Joe’s current site. A redesign is long overdue! One Village Coffee (An exciting new business specializing in connecting the grower to the consumer) Ministry Link (The website for the Southeastern PA Lutheran Synod) Ecclesia Network (A missional network of churches). I have a one page info site up. More to follow. First Church Ministries (a church in Newport News, VA) Mr. B’s Coffee House (a ministry of Calvary Church in Souderton, PA) Hopefully some of these...Read More →

Prayers for V-Tech…
You may have seen this on the news, but there has been a school shooting at Virginia Tech this morning. This kind of thing is always terrible news, but this time it strikes a little closer to home. One of our sister churches NLCF (this is a campus church at V-Tech) finds themselves right in the midst of it. The pastors there are close friends of mine and we’re working together along with a few other churches in the US on the beginnings of a new network of missional churches called Ecclesia. Please be in prayer, not only for the entire town of Blacksburg, VA, but especially for the church and the pastors as they work through this awful tragedy. I spoke with Jim Pace,...Read More →

Illinois. Not the State, but the Band.
My good friends of the band “Illinois” played a live show that is available online at XPN’s website today here. Archie, the lead singer is a great dude and a wonderful member of The Well’s family. I love their music and they represent my old state well (Even though they are from Bucks County, PA). Go take a few minutes to listen for they put on an amazing live show. (I haven’t been able to listen yet because i am in class and it would be a little obnoxious to listen during class but i imagine it is amazing as always). Oh, then go buy their new EP. You won’t regret it….

To This We Labor…
We proclaim Him admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom that we may present everyone perfect in Christ to this end I labor struggling with all His energy, which so powerfully works in me. Colossians 1:28

Willard on the Beatitudes…
In the Divine Conspiracy he writes, “Those poor in spirit are called blessed by Jesus, not because they are in a meritorious condition, but because, preciously in spite of and in the midst of their ever so deplorable condition, the rule of the heavens has moved redemptively up and through them by the grace of Christ.” (102) So, what does this “new” (“fresh” is probably a better word) look at the beatitudes mean for us? Willard says, it means that “they serve to clarify Jesus’ fundamental message: the free availability of God’s rule and righteousness to all of humanity through reliance upon Jesus himself, the person now loose in the world among us. They do this simply by taking those who, from the human point...Read More →

The Resurrection? Nonsense.
The following is the text from my sermon for Easter Sunday. Of course, this is only the text and I didn’t follow it exactly, but I was fairly close. If you want to hear it, you’ll have to wait. I have to put about 10 sermons on our church website and this is one of them. Hope you find it encouraging… It’s not normal. It doesn’t happen everyday. It doesn’t happen every century even. It’s slightly outrageous really… Jesus was a strange man. He didn’t always make much sense. Sure, Israel was waiting for The One who would come and deliver them. They remembered the promises of their forefathers that the Messiah, or the anointed one, would come and rescue them. But Jesus was a...Read More →
