Language of Belonging – Joe Myers’ New Website

    0

I just launched the new website for Joe Myers, author of the book, The Search to Belong and the upcoming book Organic Community. If you have ever visited Joe’s site in the past, you know that he’s been due for an upgrade. Joe will be doing some blogging and posting links to articles that he has found helpful in his research on community, organic order and belonging. Joe’s first book (Search to Belong) has had a lot of influence on our community life at The Well and I would recommend it to anyone. I’ve read the manuscript for Organic Community and find it just as good, if not better. Its funny, I have found that many pastors struggle with the content but most parishioners are...Read More →

    What’s Up.

    0

I haven’t posted in a while because deeply intrenched in some good stuff at church and some fun web design work. I am in the midst of finishing up some sites for a few great organizations: Joe Myers (Author of The Search to Belong and Organic Community). Here is Joe’s current site. A redesign is long overdue! One Village Coffee (An exciting new business specializing in connecting the grower to the consumer) Ministry Link (The website for the Southeastern PA Lutheran Synod) Ecclesia Network (A missional network of churches). I have a one page info site up. More to follow. First Church Ministries (a church in Newport News, VA) Mr. B’s Coffee House (a ministry of Calvary Church in Souderton, PA) Hopefully some of these...Read More →

    Chinese Churches and “Good” Magazine

    2

I headed down to Philadelphia to hang out with my friend LT (who is in my top five favorite people in the world!). LT is a pastor at Chinese Christian Church and it has been really interesting to learn over the years about the culture that the Chinese church in America faces. You think the whole post-modern / modern thing is a big deal, try adding that to three generations where some grew up in China, some who’s parents were immigrants and those like LT who grew up here in the States. Talk about politics and culture and generation wars. Listening to the stories of doing ministry in that context, I have the utmost respect for him and those who are in the same position....Read More →

    WordPress 2.1

    0

So, many of you won’t care about this but I have upgraded to WordPress 2.1 (Dreamhost has their one-click installs upgraded already which is very impressive).  I basically want to see how the new text editor they are touting works out so I am doing a few things that usually broke the old one to see if this one works better. So, what do you think?  Is it working well good?

    A Gradual Redesign…

    2

If you have been reading my blog for a while you know that I have been changing the design little by little for the past few months. I think I finally landed on a semi-final version that I am happy with. Here’s a basic rundown of the changes for those of you who care…. Site Width: I am now officially oppressing those who are running an 800×600 screen because I widened the site width to 900px. If you feel oppressed, welcome to the year 2000. Extreme Makeover Footer Edition: You probably are thinking, “oh look, a new list of colored links in the sidebar that I have never seen before.” Well, those links have been here for a long time, but hidden in the footer...Read More →

    Webdesign is Addicting…

    1

I’ve been on a redesigning frenzy lately. Part of the thing I enjoy so much is sitting back after a site is done and seeing what all the work brought forth. Most people aren’t too impressed with the ways I tricked out the code to make it work, but its satisfying to the designer. Its kind of like manual labor. Its really nice to accomplish something… - I finally fixed the mess that i made of this blog. - I put out the redesign of my second Off the Map blog in record time on Saturday after the template we were using was having some problems. (its a good thing I didn’t have to preach Sunday) The site is called “Ordinary Attempts: Doable Evangelism for...Read More →

    Off the Map Revolution Conference

    5

I just got done helping launch the website for the Off the Map’s “So You Say You Want a Revolution” Conference. Since I am now lead web developer for Off the Map and a pastor who really likes their ministry, I’ll be heading out to the conference. Feel free to join me! I don’t think that I have yet mentioned that I am working for them now as web developer. I’m basically revamping their entire web presence one site at a time (they have about 5 sites). If you have ever been on their home page you’ll know that the ministry is great but their website is rather confusing (any site that needs a “how to use this site” is waaay too complicated!). So, my...Read More →

    New Archives Page

    0

I have been playing with a new archives plug-in for WordPress that I implemented on a site I just got done redesigning called “Church Rater” (go and check it out, its a pretty interesting concept). The plug-in is called Clean Archives and is really nice because it lists every post by title and month. So, if you want to see some of my earlier blog posts (from December 2003) you can view them really easily now. I also worked into this page my tag cloud using “Ultimate Tag Warrior” (which is a great plug-in as well), archives by month and archives by category. You can either click on the “Archives” tab at the top of the page to see it in action (or if you...Read More →

    Off the Map

    0

Recently I started working as the main web developer for Off the Map, ministry based in Seattle that is committed to “helping people become better humans one conversation at a time.” It’s essentially an effort to help the ‘rest of us’ do evangelism in a helpful way (especially in a postmodern culture). It’s really a great ministry and have been to one of their conferences in the past and am enjoying working with them. (Jim Henderson, the founder, just finished his book called “AKA Lost” and I would suggest it – go ahead and buy it!) Anyways, I am in the midst of launching some new designs for their websites and we have the first one live. It’s at www.churchrater.com. Take a look and let...Read More →

I just launched a new website for a church in Philadelphia called Woodland Presbyterian Church where my friend Scott Collins-Jones is the pastor. We’re pretty pleased with the results. The content is still needing some more work but the design is completly done. Check it out here What do you think of the site?

    Hollywood SDA

    1

This morning I launched a new website for a friend’s church. Took a ton of work but I think it turned out well. The site is actually built in php using WordPress to manage all the content, news, podcast etc. All the content is fully updatable by the pastor and/or secretary so my job from here on out is to provide any support they need (e-mail, hosting, content formatting, troubleshooting, etc). You can check it out at www.hollywoodsda.org *props to Matt Heerema (Direct Steps) for doing the styling my design. He’s a CSS mad scientist and the webdesign side of me worships the pad his mouse clicks on.

    My New Web Design Site

    1

I have unofficially launched my webdesign website. you can see it here. There are still a few kinks and the portfolio is a little plain…but i’m working on some options for that. If you have some design needs (I am in the middle of doing two church websites at the moment) please let me know. Here’s a screenshot of the site.

    My first website ever..

    0

So, a bit ago i came across the first website I ever made. I was suprised to find that it’s not really that bad. Though, it is kinda funny. It is still hosted on geocities and I don’t know how long it will stay live, but its been at least 4 years old from what i can tell. I made it because we were raising support for the internship i had started at the church where i am now one of the pastors. man, its been an interesting journey since then. I have never done this on my blog, but just in case you are interested, we are still raising support for my position here at The Well. We have a newer website for that...Read More →
