Is this legal?

I was talking to a friend the other day about how we use powerpoint for our sunday worship (while i like keynote better as a whole, the in-show interface for PP is better). Anyways, i have all of our songs in individual files and was thinking about putting them up on this site for people to download and use if they wanted. We use a really simple blacak background with white text on all of our slides so I think they could be really useful for people, especially if they needed a song quickly in an “emergency.”

The only question I have: Does this break some kind of copyright laws? Is this legal?

Any thoughts?

Are they original songs? Who owns the copyright?

Original material should be no problem. Others’ songs would be a pretty clear violation of copyright unless you have permission to distribute them. Send me an email and we can talk more.

If you attibuted the author and said that people could only use the files in conjunction with a CCLI license, you’d be in a grey area.

Heck, fan sights put up lyrics all the time..

I want to see the original songs at any rate..
