Is this what i signed up for?
“The crowed joined the attack against Paul and Silas, and magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten. After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. Upon receiving such orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks…”
This doesn’t sound like the happy, smile-all-the-time kind of Christianity i grew up with. This sound more like a, sell all you have and give it to the poor, lose your life, pick up your cross and follow me kind of Christianity.
Perhaps, just perhaps, I’m missing something about the cost of following Jesus. Just a thought.

Todd, I wanted to comment on this blog. I’ve often felt the same way. It’s scary when you think about what 1st, 2nd, and 3rd century christians had to go through. I’m grateful to live in the world I do live in. As messed up as it is sometimes.

Kevin, we do live in a great time/place. I wonder sometimes which things in our culture are obstacles to following Jesus morefully. Things that we are not even seeing as obstacles…
