Rich Evangelicals???

July 12, 2005

In the Philly Enquirer on the front page, i found this article about Evangelicals and Riches. The article discusses the differing views on money within the evangelical camp
(from the Prosperity Gospel to those more concerned about social justice.

Quote of the aricle:

“Jesus did not die on the cross so you could buy a new Mercedes,” says Bishop C. Milton Grannum, founder and senior pastor of the New Covenant Church of Philadelphia, one of the city’s largest. “God blesses us to make us a blessing to others, not to be a sanctified consumer.”

It seems that Evangelicals have been getting a LOT of press lately. Each morning when i look over the NY Times at work, i often see a front page article giving a look into the evangelical world. This article is a series of articles that are seeking to take a look at the evangelical world…

I wonder if George W’s presidency and other issues involving moral and value-based questions have brought evangelicals into the spotlight. With evangelicals influencing so much politically, I wonder if the secular world is trying to get a handle on them.

Of course I’m really hoping that people see evangelicals doing so much good and modeling Christ so effectively that the media had to learn more.

ed, i think that is the case. bush has brought evangelicals into the spotlight more than normal. i hope that at least, as people begin to look closer at evangelicals, they see what you just said, a lot of people modeling Christ.
