Just one cool thought on the Lord’s prayer from one Tolkien fan to another. In his letters, Tolkien said the effect of the ring mirrored the lines from the Lord’s prayer — “deliver us from evil and lead us not into temptation.” The ring would draw evil toward its bearer from without, as in the Dark Riders, and from within, delusions of grandeur and so forth. In the same way in our lives, Satan attacks us from without and knows what internal “temptation buttons” to push. That’s changed my thinking when I pray the Our Father — “Deliver us from (external) evil and lead us not into (internal) tempatation.”
