What are your dreams for your community/community?
Okay, so i need some responses on this post again (and since i know you are out there - yes I am addicted to checking my stats! - I expect to get a few)
Here’s are the questions:
What are your dreams for your church community?
- I pray/dream that we would….
What are your dreams for your local community?
- I pray/dream that it would become…
Put your thoughts in the comments. if this is unclear and you’re not sure what I am getting at, leave that in the comments as well. Or, visit this church’s website to see where this thought originated from. Here, they have this quote:
Some men see things as they are and ask why
I dream of things that never were and ask why not
- George Bernard Shaw
I’m thinking of things a bit more specific than they put on their site, but the idea is the same (and the stuff they put in their website is really good too).

I am a suburbanite. I have everything that it takes to lead the “white picket fence” dream. The only problem is this dream has turned into a frustration. I wouldn’t go as far as calling it a nightmare. Not just yet.
I am at that point where I am disappointed with the institution of the evangelical church. I have been more than ready for the missional paradigm. I envision a church community which at first is growing stronger as believers. This is not possible in the evangelical church where the diet is consistently “Dr. Phil” like junk food. The natural outcome of this in my opinion will be a desire for the body of Christ to be in community.
I envision a symbiotic relationship between my local church and the community it serves. Where the walls behind which “Christians” hide are broken down. I also envision community flowing over boundaries of the church walls, where people can honestly say that they do have a community or a support system. I know there are a lot of people who feel the dearth of community.
I follow your Philly Emergent meetings. I really was intrigued by you discussions this past week. My thoughts were being echoed by everyone there it seems. A good friend of mine is also an MDiv Student at Biblical and has had Franke for one of his classes. I am hoping to make it to one of your meetings one of these days.
Really enjoy your blog and your insights and Discussions.

I claim no originality.
For my church community, I pray that we would believe in Jesus through the word of apostolic pastors and leaders that we might be one and that we might be found in the Father and in the Son, so that the world would believe that Jesus was sent of God.
For my local community, I pray that through the Holy Spirit, it would be convicted of guilt in regard to sin, because people don’t believe in Jesus, and righteousness, because Jesus has gone to the Father, and judgment, because the prince of this world stands condemned.
Were I to be part of a community (church and local) which experienced these things in increasing measure, I would be able to rest in the shalom of God.
