If you want to good primer on the Missional Church and you have a long commute and a way to burn some CD’s or you have an iPod, go ahead and do yourself a favor and download these mp3’s and listen to them. Michael Frost is co-author of the book “The Shaping of Things to Come.” This book has been very formative to my thinking about church and our culture.
I have listened to session #1. He paints a great image of why the church needs to ask some serious questions considering our culture. Its very good. I am guessing the next five will be pretty good too. (Of course, just listening to his cool Aussie accent is worth the time in itself!)
In the first session, he says the following (which I have formatted for emphasis). This is simply a beautiful quote. I pray that this is true of our community…for this truly is seeing “your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
The missional genius was that we create communities of
Acceptance.
Love.
Grace.
Hospitality.
Generosity.Where everyone is welcome.
No one’s a geek or a loser.
Where God’s grace is expressed though the love that we have for one another.Where we lead revolutions against injustice.
Where we rage against hatred.
When we refuse to be silenced in the midst of evil.
When we become this most subversive radical movement of God’s love in this world…
Friends, this is the church. May we continue to find grace as we seek to be the people of God in our world…
