I am going through the book “Renovation of the Heart” by Dallas Willard with about 10 people on Sunday mornings at church. It’s been a great read and a really awesome time of interaction with eachother as we are challanged with what it really means to have your spirit transformed.
This book is an amazingly hard read as it is very philosophical and “deep.” Its been a challage for all of us. But, it has been so worth it becuase Willard is putting forth a challange and a vision for character transformation that we don’t often hear.
Sue, one of the ladies in our group, said something that was a perfect summary of what this book has challanged us to. She said simply, “I am starting to realize that we can’t keep messing around. Following Christ is a serious thing.” I think she’s got the message of this book. So many of us, including myself, often “play christianity.” We go through all the right motions, do all the right christian things, have our quota of quiet times, etc, but, if we are honest (which is hard to be!) we haven’t really gotten ahold of how seriously intense and how amazingly huge of a calling it is to follow the way of Christ. I know I haven’t. But, the more I do, the more I realize how far away I have to go and how much I have to be intentional about character transformation through walking in the Spirit.
This was supposed to be a short entry…whoops.
