I am a pastor and a webdesigner.
I have a four year old son (along with a 10 month old son).
Of course, said 4 year old son asks an astonishing amount of questions a day. Too many to count.
This 4 year old son now understands that his daddy has to go to work everyday.
He doesn’t really like this so much.
Along with wanting to know why I have to work (which is easy enough to answer) he wants to know what it is that I do when I work.
This is harder to answer.
Since I am a freelance web designer 2-3 days a week, I can get away with saying that part of the day I work on my computer. (I once tried to explain what a website was and had very little success so we stick with the computer thing).
The bigger challenge was to explain to him what it means to be a pastor.
How do you explain to a four year old what a pastor does?
Well, this is what I told him:
“I help the people in our church love Jesus and love other people.”
He was satisfied with that answer and he thinks its kinda cool that I get to help people like that.
It’s cool that (at least for now) he sees me being a pastor as a good thing…
